The invention relates to a method for detecting a change in the occupancy state of a parking space. In order to detect information relating to a change in the occupancy state as quickly as possible, a radio signal is evaluated in the vehicle (10) that performs the search, even if the respective parking space is outside the field of view of the vehicle (10) that performs the search. The radio signals are transmitted by the vehicle by means of Car-2-Car communication. The radio signal is evaluated in the vehicle performing the search in order to identify whether the parking space is vacant or occupied by the vehicle.
