The present application relates to motion estimation and hydrofoil navigation of a marine vessel, in particular a marine vessel (500) comprising a hull (110), a control unit (130), a hydrofoil device (180, 190) and a motion sensor system (140) wherein the motion sensor system (140) comprises a radar transceiver control unit (145) and at least one radar transceiver (170), the at least one radar transceiver is arranged to transmit a radar signal (175) in a direction of a visual axis directed towards the sea surface (150), and wherein the radar transceiver control unit (145) is arranged to determine at least a current heave (dz) of the hull (110) relative to the water surface (150) based on radar backscatter from the sea surface (150), the control unit (130) is arranged to control the hydrofoil device (180, 190) to reduce a difference between a current heave (dz) of the hull (110) and a desired heave of the hull (110).
