The invention discloses a magnetorheological elastomer vibration absorber for a gearbox base, and relates to a vibration damper. The passive vibration absorber aims at solving the problem that an existing passive vibration absorber can only carry out vibration reduction and isolation on a single frequency. The passive vibration absorber comprises a shell, an oscillator iron core, a coil and a shear type magnetorheological elastomer. The shell and the vibrator iron core are both made of a magnetic conductive material; the shell is a cylindrical shell of which one end is provided with a hole; one end of the vibrator iron core is inserted into the shell, and a gap is formed between the outer side wall of the other end of the vibrator iron core and the inner side wall of the hole; the coil is positioned in the shell and sleeves the outer circumference of the vibrator iron core; the shape of the shear-type magnetorheological elastomer is a ring matched with the gap, and the inner ring wall and the outer ring wall of the shear-type magnetorheological elastomer are respectively fixed with the outer side wall of the other end of the vibrator iron core and the inner side wall of the hole.
