The traffic congestion degree evaluation method comprises the following steps: acquiring information of a plurality of first vehicles passing through a section of a to-be-detected road, which is acquired by a roadside sensor, and acquiring the type of simulation parameters set by traffic simulation software; calculating and extracting second vehicle information of the road to be measured from the multiple pieces of first vehicle information, wherein the second vehicle information corresponds to the type of the simulation parameter; the simulation parameters are configured according to the second vehicle information, and simulation traffic flow data are generated; and evaluating the traffic congestion degree of the to-be-detected road according to the simulated traffic flow data. The second vehicle information is utilized to configure the simulation parameters, the amount of data input into traffic simulation software is greatly reduced, the simulation calculation amount is smaller, and the simulation speed is higher.
