The invention relates to a method for verifying the plausibility of at least one sub-section (SD) of a travel trajectory (FT) of a vehicle (1). First, a sub-section (SD) of the travel trajectory (FT) based on the cluster data (SWD) is provided by a storage unit (6) external to the vehicle. For a roadway of the vehicle (1), at least one section of a roadway boundary (SRB, SLB) is detected by means of a detection unit (4) of the vehicle (1) during operation of the vehicle (1). At least one sub-section (SD) of the travel trajectory (FT) is compared with at least one section (KD) of the roadway boundary (SLB, SRB) depending on a first plausibility condition. The at least one first marking section (ML) is compared with at least one section (KD) of the roadway boundary (SLB, SRB) depending on a second plausibility condition. The at least one sub-section (SD) is subjected to a plausibility verification as a function of the comparison.
