The invention relates to a method for controlling a hydraulic pressure in at least one wheel brake of a hydraulic brake system of a motor vehicle, the system pressure being generated by an electric pressure supply device by controlling an inlet valve, in particular normally open, having an opening current characteristic curve. A required hydraulic pressure lower than the system pressure is set in the at least one wheel brake. In order to improve the pressure control, it is provided according to the invention that the inlet valve is opened by applying an opening current, in particular lower than the opening current characteristic curve, from which opening current is switched to an intermediate current on the opening current characteristic curve.
