The present invention relates to an adaptive illumination control system for an aircraft cockpit, comprising: a windshield assembly comprising a windshield glass and an electrochromic film attached to the windshield glass and adjusting a light transmittance of the windshield assembly based on a magnitude of a voltage supplied to the electrochromic film; the input assembly is used for providing illumination intensity required by a cockpit; and a control assembly connected to the electrochromic film of the windshield assembly and the input assembly, and adjusting the magnitude of the voltage supplied to the electrochromic film during the full flight phase of the aircraft based on the required illumination intensity within the cockpit of the aircraft. The control system can ensure that the cockpit has a clear external vision field in the whole flight stage of the aircraft, and realizes that the external vision field of the cockpit has a good cockpit vision field in various operation scenes, so that a pilot can safely control the aircraft in a glare-free scene. In addition, the invention also relates to a self-adaptive illumination control method.
