The method comprises the following steps: implementing an MPC algorithm comprising a longitudinal dynamical model (14) and a cost function (15.1) associated with a high-level solver module (13.1), a speed trajectory (31) minimizing the cost function (15.1) being calculated for a forward road section taking into account the longitudinal dynamical model (14) by implementing the high-level solver module (13.1), and calculating the speed trajectory (31) for the forward road section taking into account the longitudinal dynamical model (14) by implementing the high-level solver module (13.1); the speed trajectory (31) calculated by the advanced solver module (13.1) is transmitted as an input value to the human-computer interface (16), and the speed trajectory (31) calculated by the advanced solver module (13.1) is processed by means of the human-computer interface (16) into a control signal (34), and outputting a control signal (34) to a driver (35) of the motor vehicle by means of the human-machine interface (16), such that the driver (35) can control the motor vehicle (1) in accordance with the control signal (34) based on the speed trajectory (31) calculated by the advanced solver module (13.1).
