The invention relates to a method for reducing a tolerance between an actual curve and a target curve of an input rod stroke and a braking force of an external force braking system. The external force brake system comprises a master brake cylinder having at least one master brake cylinder piston moved therein by an input rod, where the master brake cylinder is hydraulically connected to a pedal sense simulator to generate a brake sense, and an external force pressure generator in which the external force piston is movable to generate a pressure. The method comprises the steps of opening valves between an external force pressure generator, a master brake cylinder and a pedal sense simulator, closing at least all valves that close the external force brake system, establishing pressure to a defined pressure with the external force pressure generator, simultaneously measuring the stroke and pressure of the external force piston, and determining the pressure of the external force piston. The generated pressure stroke curve of the external force piston is converted into a force stroke curve of the input rod, and a characteristic between the stroke of the input rod and the pressure of the external force pressure generator is corrected to achieve a defined characteristic.
