The invention relates to a double-current-system reconfigurable grid-side converter compatible with a medium-voltage direct-current system and a control method thereof. The control method comprises the following steps: starting an alternating-current grid-connected control process; the system enters a medium-voltage alternating-current steady-state operation state; starting an alternating current off-grid control process, and enabling the system to enter an idle running state; starting a direct current grid-connected control process; the system enters a medium-voltage direct-current steady-state operation state; starting a direct current off-grid control process, and enabling the system to enter an idle running state; and repeating the steps. The system has the advantages that based on the idea of equipment multiplexing, compatibility of the grid-side converter to the medium-voltage alternating-current system and medium-voltage direct-current system traction power supply systems is achieved through a small number of switching devices, and the system has remarkable advantages in the aspects of manufacturing cost and equipment size.
