The invention relates to an aircraft wing and a method of operating an aircraft wing. An aircraft wing has a movable leading edge device mounted toward a leading edge of the wing. The leading edge device is movable between a first configuration and a second configuration. In the first configuration, the leading edge device is substantially flush with the low pressure surface. In the second configuration, the surface of the leading edge device is retracted into the wing profile. The second configuration creates a void in the lower surface of the wing that alters airflow on the surface. Oncoming airflow can enter the gap. In the second configuration, the leading edge device reduces lift on the wing for reducing lift-induced strain on the wing or assisting in manipulating the wing during high speed flight. The leading edge device may also be configured to move to a third configuration. In the third configuration, the leading edge device protrudes from the surface and alters airflow on the wing. In the third configuration, the leading edge device creates lift on the wing for assisting in improving the angle of attack to prevent wing stall.
