The invention relates to the technical field of speed control, and discloses a forklift speed control method and device based on the cargo weight, and the method comprises the steps: obtaining the cargo weight detected by a cargo weight sensor and the forklift speed detected by a vehicle speed sensor in real time; the maximum preset speed corresponding to the cargo weight is called, and whether the forklift speed is larger than the maximum preset speed or not is judged; if the forklift speed is larger than the maximum preset speed, a braking proportional electromagnetic valve is controlled to increase the braking pressure of a brake so as to reduce the forklift speed to the maximum preset speed; and if the speed of the forklift is smaller than or equal to the maximum preset speed, normal running of the forklift is kept. And when the forklift runs at an overspeed, the speed of the forklift is reduced to the maximum preset speed corresponding to the cargo weight, so that the working efficiency of the forklift is improved on the premise of ensuring the safe operation of the forklift.
