A mileage estimation system and method for an electric vehicle. Dividing the planned route into a plurality of road sections; for each road segment, an estimated power loss or power gain is predicted based on when the vehicle is expected to traverse the particular road segment by taking into account the gradient or average gradient of the particular road segment, and one or more predicted time-dependent weather variables associated with the particular road segment. Weather variables may affect the power consumed when a vehicle passes through a specific road section. The mileage of the vehicle is estimated by utilizing the estimated power loss or power gain predicted for each road segment.
