A reinforcement member (10) for a vehicle is disclosed. The component comprises a first part (1) made of steel and a second part (2) fixed to a part of the first part. The second component is made of a reinforcing polymer. A reinforcing member having a combination of a second component and a first component is configured to absorb impact energy. The reinforcing members (10) of the present disclosure are lighter than conventional reinforcing members, and are structured to absorb/attenuate significantly higher impact energy than conventional beams.
