The invention discloses a driverless obstacle detection system and method, the driverless obstacle detection system comprises an ultrasonic collection imaging system and a camera auxiliary system, the ultrasonic collection imaging system is composed of eight ultrasonic probes, and the obstacle detection method specifically comprises the following steps: S1, the ultrasonic collection imaging system emits and collects ultrasonic waves, s2, the camera auxiliary system collects color images of the pictures around the vehicle body within the range of 40 meters; S3, fusion processing is carried out; s4, combining to form a distance point diagram, wherein each pixel point corresponds to a corresponding distance point; and S5, performing final obstacle detection processing according to the distance point diagram. The invention relates to the technical field of unmanned driving safety systems. According to the unmanned driving obstacle detection system and method, ultrasonic long-distance early warning and obstacle prevention can be achieved by combining ultrasonic images and camera images and performing staged processing, and hierarchical road condition maps can be generated by combining ultrasonic imaging and camera imaging.
