The invention relates to a method for operating a parking assistance system (110) of a vehicle (100), which parking assistance system is designed to capture and store a trajectory to be trained in a training mode (MOD0) and to follow the stored trajectory by the vehicle (100) in a following mode (MOD1). In order to determine whether a stored optical feature for orienting the vehicle in the following mode needs to be updated, a parameter profile of the optical feature is compared. If the similarity of the compared distributions is below a predetermined threshold, an update is performed.
