The invention discloses a rear glass defroster and a defroster system and a method for controlling the same. A method for controlling a rear glass defroster of a vehicle at start-up is presented. First, one or more factors selected from a temperature of an environment located directly outside the vehicle, a humidity of the environment, a dew point of the environment, an air pressure of the environment, a temperature of a rear glass of the vehicle, a temperature of an interior cabin of the vehicle, and a daylight load on the vehicle are determined. The one or more factors are then compared to one or more corresponding predetermined thresholds or ranges that indicate conditions suitable for frosting on the rear glass of the vehicle. Then, if the comparison indicates that the one or more factors satisfy the frosting condition, the rear glass defroster is activated. The invention further provides a vehicle rear glass defrosting system using the method.
