A method for controlling motion of a heavy vehicle (100), the method comprising: obtaining input data relating to one or more tire parameters of a tire (150, 160, 170) on the heavy vehicle (100); estimating at least a portion of the one or more tire parameters based on the input data; configuring a tire model, where the tire model defines a relationship between a tire wear rate and a vehicle motion state, where the tire model is parameterized by the one or more tire parameters; estimating a vehicle motion state; and controlling the motion of the heavy vehicle based on the tire model and the vehicle motion state.
