A hydraulic brake device for an elevator traction machine can more easily eliminate accumulation of gas. The caliper (13) releases the brake disc (11) by pressurization of the hydraulic oil, and performs braking by pressure relief of the hydraulic oil. A first solenoid valve (16) is provided in an open/close circuit including a pressurization path and a depressurization path. The pressurization path is a path from the oil tank (14) to the caliper (13) via the pump (15). The pressure relief path is a path from the caliper (13) to the oil tank (14). The first solenoid valve (16) selectively switches between the pressurization path and the pressurization path. The second solenoid valve (17) selectively switches between the exhaust circuit and the opening/closing circuit. The exhaust circuit passes through the pressurization path and the depressurization path from the oil tank (14) to the oil tank (14) via the pump (15) and the caliper (13) in a state in which the brake disc (11) is braked.
