The invention provides a wire grid polarization element which has excellent heat dissipation performance and excellent transmission and polarization separation characteristics for oblique incident light of a wide range of incident angles. A hybrid wire grid polarizer (1) comprising an inorganic material and an organic material is provided with: a substrate (10) comprising an inorganic material; a lattice structure (20) which is formed from an organic material and in which a base section (21) provided on the substrate (10) and a plurality of ridge sections (22) are integrally formed; and a functional film (30) that is formed of a metal material and covers a part of the ridge section (22). The ridge section (22) has a narrow-head shape in which the width becomes narrower as the ridge section (22) moves away from the base section (21). The functional film (30) covers and wraps the top of the ridge section (22), and does not cover the bottom side of the ridge section (22) and the base section (21). The surface of the functional film (30) has a circular shape and bulges in the width direction of the ridge section (22). The maximum width (WMAX) of the functional film (30) is equal to or greater than the bottom width (WB) of the ridge portion (22).
