The invention provides an on-road observation device and an on-road observation method capable of accurately recognizing a shooting object. The on-road observation device (5) is provided with: a viewing distance setting unit (531) that sets a viewing distance, which is a distance at which the subject to be imaged can be recognized, on the basis of whether or not the mark can be recognized; and a recognition determination unit (532) that, when a distant imaging object, which is an imaging object present at a position exceeding the set viewing distance, is recognized, resets the viewing distance, and, when the reset viewing distance does not exceed the position at which the distant imaging object is present, resets the viewing distance, and, when the reset viewing distance does not exceed the position at which the distant imaging object is present, resets the viewing distance. The recognition of the distant subject is determined to be erroneous.

    本发明提供一种能够准确地识别拍摄对象的路上观察装置以及路上观察方法。路上观察装置(5)具有:视程距离设定部(531),基于是否能够识别标记,来设定能够识别拍摄对象的距离即视程距离;以及识别判定部(532),在识别出存在于超过被设定的视程距离的位置的拍摄对象即远方的拍摄对象的情况下,执行视程距离的重新设定,在被重新设定的视程距离未超过远方的拍摄对象所存在的位置的情况下,将远方的拍摄对象的识别判定为错误。
