The invention relates to a method for operating a brake system of a motor vehicle, a control unit and a brake system. The invention relates to a method for operating a brake system (10) of a motor vehicle having at least one electric drive and having four wheels (30a, 30b, 30c, 30d). The brake system (10) has a brake device (16) with a hydraulic pressure generating unit (14) and a control unit (22), has a slip control system (40), and has four brake actuators (28a, 28b, 28c, 28d) which are connected in a one-channel configuration to the hydraulic pressure generating unit (14) and are assigned to a respective one of the wheels (30a, 30b, 30c, 30d). In the event of a failure of the slip control system (40), in order to replace the failed slip control system (40), the method has the following steps: a) applying pressure to the four brake actuators (28a, 28b, 28c, 28d) by means of the hydraulic pressure generating unit (14); and b) driving the rear wheels (30b, 30d) by means of an electric drive. A control unit (22) for carrying out such a method and a brake system (10) having such a control unit (22) are also provided.
