One of the two brake parts (2, 3) is non-rotatably connected to the support (4). The two brake parts (2, 3) can be continuously rotated relative to each other about an axis of rotation (20). The first brake member (2) extends along an axis of rotation (20) and comprises a core (21) made of a magnetically conductive material. The second brake part (3) comprises a hollow housing (13) extending around the first brake part (2). At least one circumferential brake gap which is at least partially filled with a magnetorheological medium (6) is formed between the first and the second brake part (2, 3). At least one electrical coil (26) wound about the axis of rotation (20) and surrounding the core (21) is accommodated between the housing (13) and the core (21). Two radially differently formed brake slots (5a, 5b) are formed, wherein a disc-shaped contour (41) is formed between the housing (13) and the core (21) at a first brake slot (5a) and a plurality of rollers (11) are arranged on the circumferential surface of the core (21) in a second brake slot (5b).
