The invention provides an automatic loading and unloading system for an automobile transport ship and a loading and unloading method, and the system comprises an AGV parking robot which is used for automatically transferring an automobile to the automobile transport ship from the ground or transferring the automobile to the ground from the automobile transport ship; the elevator comprises an ascending channel, a descending channel, a carrying plate and a transverse pushing mechanism, an ascending driving mechanism used for pushing the carrying plate to ascend upwards is arranged in the ascending channel, and a descending driving mechanism used for driving the carrying plate to descend downwards is arranged in the descending channel. The topmost layer of the ascending channel is provided with a transverse pushing mechanism used for transversely pushing the carrying plate into the descending channel from the ascending channel, and the bottommost layer of the descending channel is provided with a transverse pushing mechanism used for pushing the carrying plate into the ascending channel from the descending channel. Therefore, the AGV parking robot is driven by the elevator to be transferred between decks of all layers of the automobile transport ship. According to the scheme, unmanned automatic loading and unloading can be achieved, the labor cost is reduced, and meanwhile the loading and unloading efficiency can be improved.
