A direct current fast charge (DCFC) system and associated methods that significantly reduce standby power when the DCFC system is not operating and provide reset capabilities for communication requirements are disclosed. The DCFC system utilizes an appropriate load disconnect switch and associated control and communication circuitry, timer circuitry, and automatic opening system. This improves the reliability of the electronic device by removing voltage stresses during the standby mode. The DCFC system prevents energy waste and thus provides a "green" alternative to conventional DCFC systems.
