The method comprises the steps that the load and the external gradient of a vehicle are obtained, a first starting gear, a first gear interval, a first torque step length, the duty ratio of an electromagnetic valve and a virtual accelerator signal value are sequentially determined based on the load and the gradient, and the target rotating speed of an engine and the target torque of a motor are determined based on the load, the gradient and the virtual accelerator signal value; then, the engine rotates at the target rotating speed, and the clutch of the first starting gear is combined to a sliding friction point; the electromagnetic valve works at the duty ratio so that the clutch of the first starting gear can continue to be combined, meanwhile, the torque of the motor is increased by the first torque step length per unit time, in this way, the first starting gear can adapt to the load of the vehicle and the slope where the vehicle is located, it is guaranteed that starting gear selection is reliable, and too large or too small gear selection is avoided.
