A method for estimating road surface friction of a road surface on vehicle tires. A vehicle includes a steering wheel and a set of sensors including a wheel end sensor and a steering wheel sensor configured to measure a signal corresponding to a set of parameters, the signal corresponding to a wheel end parameter and a steering wheel parameter of a steered wheel, the steering wheel parameter including a steering wheel torque and a steering wheel angle, the present invention relates to a method for estimating wheel end friction in a vehicle comprising an electronic control unit connected to a communication bus configured to transmit signals to the electronic control unit configured to operate a signal processing module and a wheel end friction estimation model, the method comprising: collecting signals measured by a sensor during a time period; the signal processing module processes the collected signals to provide processed signal data; the processed signal data is provided as input to a wheel end friction estimation model configured to output a friction estimation of a friction between the road surface and a tire of the wheel.
