The invention discloses a safety performance evaluation method for a metallurgical bridge crane. The method comprises the following steps: applying current to a steel wire rope; collecting real-time electromagnetic field data of each steel wire rope; comparing the real-time electromagnetic field data with pre-measured standard electromagnetic field data to obtain a corresponding comparison result; determining the safety performance of the steel wire rope according to comparison results. The current is applied to each steel wire rope, the electromagnetic field data generated under the action of the current is detected, and the evaluation result of whether the steel wire rope has defects such as abrasion and deformation in actual use is obtained according to the electromagnetic field data, so that real-time detection of each steel wire rope is realized, and the evaluation result is real and reliable; and the safety of metallurgical production is improved.
