The invention provides a braking control method and device for a heavy-load freight train, and relates to the technical field of rail transit. The braking control method for the heavy-load freight train comprises the steps that speed limiting requests are received, the speed limiting requests are graded according to road condition information, each grade has different braking modes, the corresponding braking modes are obtained according to the grades corresponding to the speed limiting requests, and the heavy-load freight train is controlled to be braked through the braking modes. According to the technical scheme, when the heavy-load freight train is subjected to braking control, emergency braking control is not adopted for the speed limiting request corresponding to the road surface condition information which does not need emergency braking, and the braking control mode except the emergency braking control mode is adopted for the speed limiting request corresponding to the road surface condition information which does not need emergency braking; therefore, the heavy-load freight train cannot be unhooked or even derailed, and the safety of the heavy-load freight train is improved.
