A radar system for tracking UAVs and other low altitude flying objects using wireless network devices is provided. The system is implemented as a distributed low altitude radar system in which a transmit antenna is coupled with a wireless network device to radiate signals in the sky direction. The receive antenna or array receives signals radiated from the transmit antenna, in particular signals or echoes reflected from objects in the sky detection area. One or more processing components are electronically coupled with the wireless network device and the receive antenna to receive and manipulate the signal information to provide identification and tracking of low altitude flying objects and their movement within the coverage area. The system may provide detection of objects throughout multiple areas through network area nodes and aggregate this information as they move within the detection area to detect and track UAVs and other low altitude flying objects.
