The invention relates to a method for determining an absolute initial position of a vehicle. To this end, the vehicle is moved from an absolute initial position along a trajectory (1). The trajectory (1) is acquired (S2) by an odometer starting from a defined initial position (2), the defined initial position (2) corresponding to an absolute initial position. Three objects (O1, O2, O3) are detected from a vehicle located on a trajectory (1). A detection line (3) is acquired in each detection. The trajectory (1) with the detection line (3) is compared with a map. Finally, an absolute initial position is determined from the comparison.
