The present disclosure relates to a driving assistance system for autonomous driving of a vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle. The driving assistance system comprises at least one processor unit which, when the driving assistance system performs a turning operation into a road, is configured to: determine a turning operation based on environmental data of an environmental sensor system of the vehicle; determining whether other oncoming road users block a lane of the road corresponding to the vehicle; if it is determined that the other road user blocks a lane of the road corresponding to the vehicle, a situation evaluation is made to determine whether a vehicle should be backed up to allow the other road user to drive out of the road, or to request the other road user to vacate the lane by backing up.
