The invention relates to a method for discharging a vehicle high-voltage network (HN) electrically isolated from a ground potential in the presence of a fault current. The following steps are provided: ascertaining whether the fault current flows between an HV potential (HV +) of the vehicle high-voltage network and the ground potential (M) or whether the fault current flows between a second HV voltage (HV-) of the vehicle high-voltage network and the ground potential (M). The method further provides that only the Cy capacitance (Cy1), which is present between the ground potential (M) and the HV potential (HV +, HV-) from which the fault current flows or to which the fault current flows, is discharged, the discharge being triggered by ascertaining the presence of the fault current. The invention further relates to a vehicle electrical system (FB) and to an insulation monitoring device (IW), which are designed to carry out the method. The invention further relates to a corresponding charging station high-voltage network.
