The invention relates to a method for assigning a traffic lane (12) currently traveled by a vehicle (10), in which method input variables of at least one data source are detected for determining the currently traveled traffic lane (12), the at least one data source comprising detected signals of a surroundings sensor (14) of the vehicle, in which method the vehicle (10) is assigned to the traffic lane (12) currently traveled by the vehicle (10). In order to improve the possibility of the explicit assignment of the carriageways traveled by the vehicle, at least one data source comprises a C2X communication (16).
