The invention relates to a method for increasing the availability of an energy storage or conversion system of a vehicle. The energy storage or conversion (EST) system comprises a plurality of EST devices, and the method comprises:-providing an EST system model of coupled EST components of the EST system,-identifying a fault or an error in EST condition parameters of the EST system,-estimating an output value of the EST condition parameters based on the EST system model,-identifying a vehicle condition that, in the event that the EST system is at least temporarily deficient in operability,-estimating an output value of the EST condition parameters based on the EST system model. And-in response to identifying a vehicle condition belonging to a predetermined set of vehicle conditions defined as hazardous, operating the EST system using the estimated output value of the EST condition parameter based on the EST system model regardless of a fault or error in the EST condition parameter, in response to identifying a vehicle condition belonging to the predetermined set of vehicle conditions defined as hazardous.
