In exemplary embodiments, methods, systems, and vehicles are provided that include one or more sensors configured to at least facilitate obtaining sensor data having one or more indications related to a target vehicle traveling in front of the vehicle along a road; and a processor coupled to the one or more sensors and configured to at least facilitate: determining an initial estimate of acceleration of a target vehicle based on the one or more indications associated with the target vehicle; and controlling a vehicle action of the vehicle based at least in part on the initial estimate of acceleration based on the one or more indications associated with the target vehicle.
