The invention relates to a method for actively resetting a deflection of a steering system of a motor vehicle (1), in which the motor vehicle (1) comprises an axle having a plurality of steerable wheels (11) and a steering device having a controller (30) with an active return function. The method is characterized by: detecting a steering angle relative to the initial position and determining therefrom an average steering angle delta (21) of the steerable wheels; determining a slip angle [alpha] f (22) of the steerable wheel (11); a target setting of the steering angle for the active reset deflection is set as a function of the slip angle [alpha] f of the steerable wheel (11), such that the slip angle [alpha] f of the steerable wheel is zero degree (23) in the target setting.
