The object detector (18) detects a detectable object (20) proximate to the host vehicle (12). The receiver (22) receives an indication of an object presence (26) from other transmitters (24) proximate to the host vehicle (12). The controller (40) is in communication with the object detector (18) and the receiver (22). The controller (40) is configured to operate the host vehicle (12) to avoid collisions with a hidden object (28) when the hidden object (28) is not detected by the object detector (18) and at least two instances of the other transmitter (24) indicate the presence (26) of the object.
