The present invention proposes an engagement unit (40) for cooperating with a separate attachment unit (20) in a docking and recharging system (100) for an electric power assisted personal mobile vehicle (10) having a battery that accumulates electric power to be supplied to an electric motor. According to the invention, the joining unit (40) comprises: an electrical terminal module (44) configured to establish an electrical connection with a corresponding electrical terminal module (82) provided at the attachment unit (20); locking means configured to secure the attachment unit (20) when the attachment unit (20) is in the lockable position and the actuation means (81) of the attachment unit (20) is fully engaged with the engagement unit (40); and a control module configured to receive an identification signal from an identification device provided in the attachment unit (20). Furthermore, the attachment unit (20) for cooperating with the engagement unit (40) comprises: an electrical terminal module (82) configured to establish an electrical connection with a corresponding electrical terminal module (44) provided at the attachment unit (20); an actuation device (81) provided to engage with the engagement unit (40); and an identification device arranged to communicate with a control module of the engagement unit (40), where the attachment unit (20) is attachable to the battery powered personal mobile vehicle (10).
