The excitation electronic retarder is characterized by comprising a cover plate, a first electromagnetic iron core, a second electromagnetic iron core, an iron core fixing plate, a central shaft, a chain wheel, a permanent magnet iron core, a sliding electrode, a connecting seat, a primary coil and a secondary coil. When the vehicle needs to decelerate, the retarder works before the brake, and the vehicle can slowly reduce the speed through dragging of the retarder, so that the loss of the brake is reduced, and the probability of sideslip during braking is also reduced. The retarder and the brake are used at the same time, the speed of the vehicle can be rapidly reduced, the braking distance is shortened, and the vehicle can stop in a short time. And when the vehicle needs to be backed up or turned around, the retarder is used as a motor, so that the vehicle can be backed up or turned around on a narrow road section or a ramp. When the primary coil and the secondary coil on the electromagnetic iron core supply power to the primary coil through the battery, the secondary coil serves as a power generation coil, consumption of the vehicle battery is reduced, the burden of a vehicle generator is relieved, and oil consumption of the vehicle is reduced.
