The method further includes receiving (406) a driver requested torque value, and determining (408) a passive pedal torque value based on the route data and the vehicle powertrain data. The method further includes selectively assigning (410) control of the vehicle to the vehicle system or a driver of the vehicle (10) based on the driver requested torque value and the passive pedal torque value.
