The auxiliary braking device for the ship propulsion shafting comprises a transmission shaft rotationally installed on a shaft seat and a first support fixedly installed at the bottom of the shaft seat; a brake disc arranged on the transmission shaft in a sleeving manner; and four positioning mechanisms which are arranged on the two sides of the transmission shaft respectively, are located on the two sides of the brake disc respectively, and are distributed in a pairwise corresponding mode, wherein each positioning mechanism comprises a positioning cover, a reset groove, a sliding piece, a bolt, two positioning grooves, two positioning rods and two contact pieces, and the positioning cover is fixedly installed on one side of the transmission shaft. The auxiliary braking device and method for the ship propulsion shafting have the advantages that the brake disc is convenient to install, the replacement mode is simple, the installation is stable, an auxiliary braking brake pad can be cooled, and the failure rate is reduced.
