An example driver verification method includes transmitting a ride request from a first mobile device of a user to a server of a ride hailing service, and receiving a first credential at the first mobile device from the server. The first credential is associated with a driver and vehicle assigned to the ride request. The first mobile device receives a second credential from a second mobile devicethat is associated with the driver. A determination is made of whether the first credential corresponds to the second credential, and a driver verification notification is provided to the user in response thereto.
