The invention discloses an elevator capable of descending at a limited speed. The elevator comprises a lift car, a traction mechanism, a speed limiting mechanism and a guide mechanism. The traction mechanism is connected with the lift car and provides a driving force for the lift car; the speed limiting mechanism is connected with the lift car and prevents the lift car from being beyond a first limit value; and the guide mechanism is arranged between the lift car and the hoistway and used for limiting a movement direction of the lift car. By means of the speed limiting mechanism, the elevatorcan run within a set speed value, so that an overspeed phenomenon cannot happen. A guide plate is clamped by a third roller and a fourth roller, and when the lift car moves up and down, the third roller and the fourth roller are driven by the guide plate to rotate passively. Therefore, rotating vanes also rotate passively to stir non-Newtonian fluid. When the non-Newtonian fluid is stirred at a low speed, the resistance is not too large, and when the non-Newtonian fluid is stirred at a high speed, the resistance is rapidly increased, so that the rotating speed of the rotating vanes is forciblyreduced, further the rotating speed of the third roller is also reduced, and thus the speed limiting effect is achieved. The device can be widely applied to various lifting conveying occasions.
