The invention discloses a method for adjusting a safety distance between a first vehicle and a second vehicle preceding the first vehicle by at least one control device, in particular to a method foradjusting a safety distance between a first vehicle and a second vehicle preceding the first vehicle at a bunched traffic site by at least one control device, which includes receiving measurement dataof at least one sensor unit with the at least one control device; analyzing the measurement data of the at least one sensor unit to determine a bunched traffic site in front of the second vehicle anddetermining a safety distance of the first vehicle from the second vehicle in the event that a traffic node is detected in front and introudcing an adherence to the determined safety distance by thecontrol device, said adherence to the safety distance of the first vehicle from the second vehicle being used for possible receding of the second vehicle. A control device, a computer program and a machine-readable storage medium are further disclosed.
