The invention relates to a workpiece holding device (14) for conveying workpieces (22), in particular for conveying vehicle bodies, the workpiece holding device comprising a base (18), which is designed to be moved in a conveying direction (16) on a support surface or along a transportation device (12) of a conveying device (10), and comprising a workpiece carrier (20) for carrying at least one workpiece (22) that is mounted on the base (18). In order for the workpieces (22) to also be conveyed in an orientation that is inclined in the conveying direction (16), at least one lifting mechanism (24, 28) is additionally provided in order to lift or lower a region of the workpiece carrier (20) that is at the rear in the conveying direction (16) and/or a region of the workpiece carrier that is at the front in the conveying direction (16), relative to the base (18).
