The invention discloses a method and system for controlling for an aerial work platform. The method comprises the following steps: a controller controls the aerial work platform to enter a walking or lifting mode according to the received input signal of a working mode selection device, and then controls the movement of the aerial work platform according to the received input signal of a movement value input device; when the elapsed time after controlling the aerial work platform is stopped is beyond the stand-by time, the aerial work platform is controlled to enter a sleep mode; at the moment, after a movement value is input, the aerial work platform does not move; the aerial work platform is controlled to quit the sleep mode after selecting the working mode, and the aerial work platform moves after the movement value is input. The sleep mode and the wake-up function of the aerial work platform are realized. When the aerial work platform is in standby operation for a long time, the selected working mode needs to be confirmed before the aerial work platform normally works. The operational error or improper operation of operators under various conditions can be effectively avoided, and the operation of the aerial work platform is safer and more reliable.
