This forklift includes: a pump pressure detection device (47A, 47B) that detects the pump pressure of an engine (4)-driven hydraulic pump (10) for traveling; a lift pressure detection device (48); a storage unit (30M) that stores a first output characteristic group (51), which has for a plurality of lift pressures a plurality of output characteristics indicating the relationship between torque and the rotational velocity of an engine (4), a second output characteristic group (52), which has for a plurality of pump pressures a plurality of output characteristics indicating the relationship between torque and rotational velocity, and a pre-set lift pressure setting value; a first target torque (Tm1) obtained from the rotational velocity of the engine (4) and output characteristics selected from the first output characteristic group (51) using the actual lift pressure or the lift pressure setting value; and a control device (30) that sets the target torque (Tm) of the engine (4) to the larger of either the output characteristics selected from the second output characteristic group (52) using the pump pressure or a second target torque (Tm2) obtained from the rotational velocity of the engine (4).
