The invention discloses a front wheel independent steering system for a commercial vehicle to improve the steering performance of the commercial vehicle. The steering system is composed of motors, a worm and gear mechanism and a pinion and rack assembly. Due to the fact that the full mass of the commercial vehicle is high and torque required by steering is large, a double reduction mechanism is adopted, and then steering torque large enough is provided through twice increase of torque, wherein the worm and gear mechanism serves as the first reduction stage, and the pinion and rack assembly serves as the second reduction stage. Each of two steering wheels corresponds to one motor. The two motors are independent of each other, and steering of the corresponding wheels is controlled through relevant mechanisms. Independent steering not only can overcome the defects of traditional steering, but also has the advantages that the operation stability of the vehicle can be improved, tire wear can be reduced, and economical efficiency can be improved.
