The invention discloses a device and method for testing peak adhesion coefficient of a road surface. The device comprises an automobile information collecting unit, a data processing unit and an output displaying device, wherein the automobile information collecting unit comprises a wheel speed sensor, a wheel rotation speed sensor, a wheel cylinder pressure sensor and a wheel vertical load sensor; the data processing unit comprises a wheel slip rate calculating module, a wheel longitudinal force calculating module, a Burckhard tire model screening module, a road surface adhesion coefficient calculating module and a road surface peak adhesion coefficient calculating module; and the road surface peak adhesion coefficient calculating module is connected with the output displaying device and used for displaying current road surface peak adhesion coefficient in real time. The invention is advantaged in that the real-time performance of the method is good, the method is applicable to various road surfaces and not limited to a plurality of typical road surfaces, and the treatment method is simple and effective. The device disclosed by the invention has the advantages of simple structure, wide application range and high efficiency to preferably control vehicles.
